This is a renovation of a north facing garden in Lafayette. A large redwood created many problems for the owner. Leaf litter and soil acidity made it difficult for plants the owner installed to thrive. I developed a garden design using a mixed evergreen forest approach. That meant using plants that normally thrive in the conditions present. A mix of California native and other acid loving plants make this a spectacular garden year round.
This garden was installed in late winter reducing watering the first few months. The following spring less than 1 year later the garden has taken off. It continues to thrive with with simple pruning a couple times of year. The new drip irrigation system efficiently waters when needed. Below is the list of plants used to create this garden
Planted with a combination of California native and other shade loving plants.
